Who are the stakeholders in this housing conflict

    • What are each group’s arguments or concerns?

    • Which stakeholders do you think have the strongest case, and why?

    • Balance between environmental protection vs. human need

    • The land proposed for the housing is habitat for bighorn sheep. How should communities decide when to protect nature and when to develop land for people’s needs?

    • Can you think of ways to build housing without harming the environment, or compromise solutions?

    Impact of rising housing costs in tourist/resort towns

    • How does having lots of second homes and vacation rentals affect the people who live year-round and work in the town?

    • What are social or economic consequences (e.g., workforce shortages, commuting long distances, community character)?

    Role of government and corporations

    • In the case of Vail, both the company (Vail Resorts) and town government are involved. What responsibilities do you think each has in solving the housing shortage?

    Silent Read 20 min Review Ambush - Class Discussion Sightlines - Ambush Pair Pg 61 1. What question was the narrator asked by his daughter? 2. How did he handle it? 3. What and where is ‘My Khe’? 4. Who is Kiowa? 5. In a short paragraph (5 sentences minimum) summarize the experience that haunts him. Develop FULL topic sentence, body - examples, and concluding statement here. Be ready to present! 6. How did Kiowa try and help the narrator? 7. Why does the narrator see ‘the young man coming out of the fog’ at the end of the story?
